Stopover in Copenhagen

If you can ever do a stopover in Copenhagen… just do it. Do it in summer, when the days never end.

It’s what I did, taking advantage of a visit to a supplier I took an extra day to explore the city. In classic fashion I built a plan around beer and food scouting.

Mikkeller was on my plan of course. This guy has been gypsy brewing everywhere around the world, it was just normal I would come by in his home city. I have had occasions to try the beers from his twin bro’, under the Evil Twin brand and I visited his bar in Brooklyn a couple times (the highly rated  minimalist Torst) but Mikkeller Copenhagen was on my bucket lis

So I Google mapped  “Mikkeller” and that’s where it all went out of control…

There were plenty of Mikkeller around me. Mikkeller and Friends, Mikkeller bottle shop, Warpig Mikkeller, Ol&Brod Mikkeller, Hyggestund Mikkeller and other with Skandinavian complex spelling. Copenhagen is Mikkeller city actually. From the small minimalist store to the seated smart restaurant but every time with the Mikkeller signature design, which  I must say I like a lot.

I decided to connect the dots, rebuilt a map and followed the track. After all it was a day off, the sun would never come down….

I had to make a choice though and made my way through Mikkeller Bar Victoriagade (a very cozy, stylish street bar). There were guest beers on the menu, including Orval from the last 5 years but I selected a Mikkeller of course. A New England and a Sour. As I was starving I then moved to Warpigs, which is a side project from Mikkeller-3Floyds. White tiles, pulled pork, a very small brewery, sharing table in what seem to be an old fishmarket or so. Made my way to Mikkeller & Friends where I made a couple friends and received a glass to take home.  I also tried their low abv beer Drin’in the sun and Energinbajer… and for real, they came right on time!

Next time I’ll go see the little mermaid. I should right?
